While working on content for an upcoming post, I found it necessary to head over to the bookmark manager. Information overload is the driver of my “where did I see that” moments.

While scanning the manager, I style spotted the article “Inside Tara Shaw’s Breathtaking—and Very European—New Orleans Home” from One Kings Lane. Immediately I remembered the wooden crown sculpture and bed crown home decor pieces prominently featured in several of the images in the article.

Gilded pleasures is the term that best defines my fancy for crown home decor sculptures and accessories bedecked in shades of gold.
Gilded (also called gilt) refers to the gold appearance or illusion achieved when covering a surface such as wood, metal, porcelain or stone with a thin layer of gold. Gold paint or gold leaf is traditionally applied by hand resulting in an overlay effect of gorgeous gilded goodness.
As you might expect, I equate crown themed home decor pieces with the city of New Orleans. The French and Spanish influence is displayed in the architecture, regional cuisine, and pageantry of the royal courts of the Mardi Gras krewes.
The 2019 Mardi Gras season is in full party and entertaining swing. Although these crown embellished dessert plates are not actually gold or gilded, they do accomplish the style mission of serving grand and regal style.
