Season’s Greetings! I love that traditional greeting, and it seems a most befitting introduction to these Christmas images in seasonal splendor post. Andy Williams serenades “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” as I live and holiday, and by gosh, by golly it most certainly is.
The sight and sound of traditional holiday colors, songs, decorations and displays delight, and these images of Christmas rich in traditional trimmings are a few of my favorite things.
As the holiday pace picks up, I remind myself it will come and go like the blink of an eye. I make sure to fill the house with Christmas music, the slow cooker with scents of the season, and Dave the Builder’s Christmas cookie jar full of whatever cake mix cookie combination I come up with this week. Most of all, I am making sure not to lose sight of the true beauty of and reason for the season. That definitely brings to mind and eye images of Christmas in seasonal splendor.
Welcome to the Places In The Home first day of fall 2015 home is where the fall is feature. My for the fall of it all decorating is not what I would categorize as a traditional fall home tour, per se, however I do love placing the seasonal decorating accent mark on fall with set spot arrangements and seasonal accessories here, there and about.
I pulled decorative things together from spaces, bookshelf displays, Hopefully Classic Antiques and Interiors inventory, tabletop favorites, ghosts of preserved floral stems past and nature’s arts and crafts store.
A late summer experiment with drying hydrangeas proved successful enough to fulfill my fall and holiday decorating needs.
I bought this framed print at auction. This particular antiques auction was held off the beaten path in the piney woods of North Louisiana. The smalls at this hit the jackpot auction ranged from spectacular to premier, and the prices were equally fantastic.
I chalked it up to coincidence, but it seemed the auctions held in the fall brought forth the best finds. I was like a kid in a big old country barn candy store with a cup of hot chocolate in one hand (it gets cold in the piney woods) and a bid card in the other. Fall weekends offer up a snapshot, a glimpse from the past of those Saturday nights spent at the auction. This framed print reminds me of a not quite, but almost fall stroll through those piney woods. Good deals, good times and great memories.
Hotel china demitasse cups are both a passion and a weakness of mine.
The price wasn’t exactly right for the set, but the I have to have these part of my brain convinced the a better deal is out there part of my brain that this was the last set of hotel china demitasse cups on the planet, and if I did not immediately buy them right then and there the treasure hunting gods would forever rain down it’s full price for you wrath on all future treasure hunts and finds. Retail logic was alive and well.
Layering the look with gold tones and warm textures seems naturally autumn appropriate.
“Autumn carries more gold in its pocket than all the other seasons.” ― Jim Bishop
Is it that time of year already to be in new season, new ideas blog mode? I think there’s still plenty of the present season to home decor show and tell about, but the window of summer is beginning to close. We will say so long to outdoor living, patio parties and summer soiree home decor finds that will disappear from our favorite store sites and shelves. On the bright side however, one of my favorite words, clearance, is heading to a home decor department near you in the very near discount future. I’m beginning to hear the rumblings of fall is right around the corner retail chatter. With all the inspired ideas floating around for the upcoming blog season, I find I’m not quite ready to throw in the summer beach towel just yet. The summer of 2015 has been a stylish one, and has turned out to be an interior decorating and home decor success in terms of trends and retail offerings.
Home accents, decor and furnishings markets are gearing up to reveal what’s new for the upcoming fall season in decorating trends and home decor. Interior decorating, tailgating times, holiday happenings, fall colors on parade decor accents and accessories suggestions and inspired ideas to dish and decorate around will follow, and I for one can’t wait! The summer blogging pace is slowing down for a few weeks in anticipation of a full-on fall preview. I am looking forward to things to come, and hope you will tune in for the Places In The Home fall 2015 design and decorating show and tell. I promise it will not disappoint.
Making things pretty on a penny is always a subject of interest to me, clients, friends, family and judging from the emails I receive, most of my readers.
The summer retail season is heating up, and the stores, outlets and online sights we love to call favorites are rolling out seasonal finds much to the delight of decorators, designers and gotta have it guys and gals. Seasonal decorating is nothing new, but the items in which to accomplish this mission of home decor beautification are. Summer style spotting with pen, paper and bookmark icon ready to jot and save is proving to be successful on the summer finds front. Here is the first round of the Gotta Have It List summer 2015 edition.
H & M continues to impress with decorative accents big on visual quality and style at an affordable price. You just can’t go wrong with an accent piece in the decorating darling duo of black and white. A classic color combination paired with a trending pattern in pop of zebra detail places this ceramic jar accent at the top of the Gotta Have It list summer 2015 edition.
Named after English architect Charles L. Eastlake, the design of this late 19th century style of furniture is one of my least favorites. This mass produced style is actually more of a “in the style of” interpretation of what American professional cabinet makers serving as master furniture designers deemed an authentic replica of Eastlake’s design. Charles Eastlake was not impressed with the results. Mr. Eastlake and I are of the same school of thought. His words say it far better than mine.
“I find American tradesmen continually advertising what they are pleased to call Eastlake furniture, the production of which I have had nothing whatever to do, and for the taste of which I should be very sorry to be considered responsible.”
~ Charles L. Eastlake
That being said, the Eastlake style chair in the above image from Style Me Pretty demonstrates how a chic update can transform an otherwise dated piece into a hip and happening accent chair focal point. Not all antique furniture pieces are prime candidates for paint, but in the case of Eastlake furniture I say pick it out, shake it up and paint it pretty.
Late summer means treasure hunting days at one of my favorite haunts, Korner Shoppe Antiques. This gem of a joint is full to the gills with my kind of treasures, trinkets and trash. Inspiration struck as I perused the shoppe’s Facebook page so I did what all deal dreaming decoristas do- I sketched out plans for an upcoming project around copper pots and pans.
One very brilliant episode of Mad Men placed Howard Johnson’s back into the thoughts of a generation of hungry Americans who ordered up cups, plates and scoops of American fare under the iconic bright orange roof.

Our local weatherman just made my day with the forecast that pays- sunny with an expected high of 78 degrees. Can I get a spring is in sight! The first day of spring didn’t necessarily bring spring like weather to some, but let’s look at the iced tea, water and lemonade glass half full. Good things and warm temps will come to those who patiently bundle up this week.
Now that the weatherman and the calendar have established that spring is in sight, one’s thoughts naturally turn to spring break vacation, daycation and backyardcation destination ideas. There’s places to go, people to see and parties to plan. I received an email from our friends at Pinterest inviting me to create a place board of my ideal dawn to dusk daycation. Any guesses where we’re going?
This season’s color crush is brought to you by Sherwin- Williams Aloe and Sherwin-Williams Bunglehouse Gray. I love any excuse to contemplate and coordinate bedding with spring and summer colors and textures.
An acquaintance of ours has recently purchased a beach property in need of a decorative update or two. Too many miles between us and certain time constraints makes this project a prime candidate for my edecorating services. I’ve been perusing shops and sites for furnishings and accessories that say beach chic. I’ll share the design board with you all soon. Your comments are always welcome!
