Is That A Tiger On Your Tablescape? Tailgating Tablescapes Ideas

The football season rumblings are as loud as a Saturday at Tiger Stadium aka Death Valley.  Talk of menus, recipes, decorations and tailgating tablescapes ideas gives the tailgating nation something to talk about as well.  Southern Louisianians currently find themselves in a state of flooding uproar, displaced but not defeated.  Some LSU and New Orleans Saints football fans will be tailgating around tailgating tablescapes in post flood neighborhoods for a while, but the good times will roll throughout the parishes and neighborhoods nonetheless.  A strong spirit and an even stronger will is hard to beat on and off the football field.

If you play your cards right, the entire pregame and post-game tailgating experience can be an entertaining success from parking to parting.  I have it on good authority that the LSU fans traveling to Wisconsin to see the Tigers face the University of Wisconsin Badgers at Lambeau Field are pre-sell prepared, booking up most of the parking lots and spaces available for Saturday’s game.  Prepared is the first line of defense for successful tailgating.

Tailgating has come along way from the hibachi and red Solo cup days, not that there’s anything wrong with that.  Tailgaters decked out in insert team colors here attire believe in getting the party started early.  The old adage football is a religion in the South has a lot of truth to it.  The shall we gather at the stadium loyal gather together to get the pregame ritual kicked off the way we like- all fired up.  There’s a lot of smoke and a lot of fire on these grills and smokers.

To every sport there is a season, and to every tailgating tablescape there is a reason.  Real estate is all about location, location, location.  Tailgating tablescapes is all about display, display, display.  I like to start with a theme and build from there.  Decorating your surroundings and tablescapes with team colors and seasonal accents seems to always visually please the crowd.

I love arrangements with a nod to the fabulous football fall season.   A lot of color and a little spice make a fabulous football tailgating combination. Get the tailgating tablescapes flower hook up with faux, fresh store-bought or from the home and garden section of your or your neighbor’s yard.  Crotons, dried hydrangeas, marigolds, branches, magnolia leaves and sunflowers pack well for transport as well as color impact.

Pumpkin time is coming.  Painted, succulent topped, carved or fall on parade groupings in different sizes and colors, lanterns, serving bowl, soup tureen – the pumpkin is a decorative powerhouse.   I think nothing of packing up the wedding china and crystal (got to use it for something) for a head turning tablescape.  Sometimes you just gotta bring your tailgating tablescapes A game to the game day table.

Simple serves a purpose, a hungry crowd, and an easy cleanup detail.  I keep my eye of the tiger on these 5 gallon college buckets from Home Depot.  I like to pick up several of these tailgating gotta have it staples to use as a carry all, cool all and basic catchall.

The first line of defense in pulling off a successful tailgating menu is to know your audience.  Are you playing to the beer & dogs crowd, or a cast of it doesn’t matter what we’re eating only what we’re drinking tailgating characters?

Menus can be a kick in the end zone extra point tailgating winner when the theme is hometown, home state or home team related.  Fried alligator (University of Florida), all dog, no bull grilled hot dogs (Georgia Bulldogs), pulled pork sliders with razorback remoulade (Arkansas Razorbacks) to name a few tailgating menu ideas.

The Lodge cast iron bowl is a tailgating serving piece staple as much as the chili, soup, stew or hash brown casserole (gosh, that sounds good!) served in it.

What started out as a fall inspired serving pieces idea board turned into a billboard for farmhouse chic pieces. The idea is to up your tailgating tablescape presentation game.  A lantern makes a great serving piece alternative.  Using plastic mason jars for serving the ever popular, ever easy salad, breads or desserts in a jar gives you the mason jar-farmhouse chic without the worry of breakage.  I really like the elm and faux slate melamine serving boards from the Webstaurant Store.  Melamine is break-resistant and the look of these boards complements a rustic, fall or farmhouse chic tablescape. You can’t go wrong with a chicken wire cloche. Copper beer tubs, farm animal plates and moss baskets all make stylish serving pieces.
