Now that the holiday season is in the rear view mirror, the decorations are down and packed away, and I finally know what day of the week it is, it’s time to look ahead to interior design decorating trends 2019.
Interior design decorating trends 2019 opinions, predictions, and prognostications differ from one designer-expert-decorator to the next.
Where one asserts a certain interior design trend will be huge in 2019, another deems the trend over and done with.
As for my personal formula of predicting interior design decorating trends 2019, I study various predictions, do a quick retrospect of the previous year’s hit and misses, factor in personal taste, and suggest accordingly.
In the Kitchen
Butcher block countertops.
Design Sponge
Pecky cypress finishes.
Out with the square footage hog better known as the kitchen island. Floor space is the hottest commodity in the kitchen workspace, and the kitchen island can take up quite a lot of it.
Personally, I like the proven functionality of the kitchen island, but have been known to curse its cumbersome existence at times.
In with the on wheels movable stations or serving pieces.
Shaan Kitchen Island with Granite
Custom and period style hardware.
Westward Foundry
I’m just the messenger here, but according to more than one and less than ten interior design and home decor online magazines, the popularity of the rustic farmhouse look is waning in favor of a more elegant aesthetic.
Black is timeless, elegant, and on trend in kitchen style for 2019.
Rich greens and deep blues will strike a color trend chord, creating a space that is intimate, cozy, and inviting.
Open shelving is the trend that keeps on giving a stylish and curated look.
Antiques
The trend towards antique pieces excites me to no end. Antiques promote a balanced contrast which in turn makes a visually compelling statement.
The mixing of the old with the new ensures a classic, current, fresh and relevant result.
Unique, one-of-a-kind, and custom pieces will be on the trend radar for 2019.
Focal point pieces or accents add such character to a space. Introducing one unique, one-of-a-kind, and/or custom piece will accomplish this.
Acrylic Furniture
Acrylic continues to be a clear choice for use as a foundation piece as well as a contemporary complement to antiques.
In These Modern Times
American modern, mid-century modern, and Art Deco will fabulously fit in with the movement toward elegance.
Let me to reiterate: the mixing of the old with the new ensures a classic, current, fresh, custom, and relevant result.

Bold Walls
Pinterest numbers are in, and they show Pinterest searches for ‘mustard yellow’ were up 45 percent from last year.
Two other searches of pinteresting mention find searches for ‘geometric paint’ up 225 percent, and searches for ‘tropical leaf wallpaper’ up by a whopping 401 percent.
I do believe an interior design decorating trend is afoot.
Color. Texture. Pattern.
Pink is coming in on trend as well as the jewel tones that complement.
Benjamin Moore Pink Pearl 2005-60
Adding texture to the walls, floors, countertops, cabinetry, spaces and places in the home is on the mind and the searches of Pinterest users.
Searches for ‘textile art’ climbed by 1,178 percent.
Visual texture takes the decorating lead with woven fabrics and textured wallpapers at pattern play.
Warm colors.

Metals continue to create a buzz.
Vintage tin, pewter and gunmetal accents top the searches across social sites.
Comfort in Style
The one commonality found in every article-feature-post consulted emphasize designing and decorating with comfort and mind.
Warm and cozy is the common denominator of the interior design decorating trends 2019 consulted.
A beautifully-designed bed, soft rug, comfortable sofa and chair aka the creature comforts of home, will be in high trend demand.
Who else believes the above more a necessity than trend?
Years ago, I coined the term “too furniture store” to drive my point home with Dave the Builder that contrary to popularity, decade or trend, a contrived design, one devoid of the essential design element we know as comfort, zaps the life, individual style, and oomph right out of a space.
The beginning of a new year is exciting, and the interior design decorating trends 2019 show great and stylish potential.
I look forward to seeing what interior design decorating trends 2019 thrive and what trends fade.
