Stunning images such as this classic example of French Louisiana architecture from architect Ken Tate with interiors designed by Ann Holden of Holden and Dupuy Interiors affirm my love of traditional design and decor features steeped in southern charm.
I thought I would bring back my A Most Fetching Friday series for the spring and summer season. Today’s spring and summer fetching Friday kicks off the series with a collection of images drenched in color and seasonal decorating inspiration.
Although black is not the only dark color choice associated with dark interiors, it does seem to be the basis for dramatic back in black magic. Black is the new black- a perennial color classic and decorating color essential. What oomph the perfect little black dress lends to a fashionista’s wardrobe, a space dressed from floor-to-ceiling in the color black speaks to a decorista’s personal interior design and decorating style.
Dark interiors keep beautiful company with deep accent colors rich in palette intensity, and therein lies the secret to the perfect design and decorating marriage.
Home accents, decor and furnishings markets are gearing up to reveal what’s new for the upcoming fall season in decorating trends and home decor.
Interior decorating, tailgating times, holiday happenings, fall colors on parade decor accents and accessories suggestions and inspired ideas to dish and decorate around will follow, and I for one can’t wait!
The summer blogging pace is slowing down for a few weeks in anticipation of a full-on fall preview.
This week’s Fetching Friday 12 is a visual shout-out to members of my furnish, tile, feature, FOLK, and photography circle of business and social media friends.
In an ever-changing world it’s difficult to stay on top of what’s on trend. Think electronic gadgets. About the time you program, master and become proficient with the latest and greatest electronic gadget of choice here comes the newest version down the pike. Does this principle apply to decorating? Nah! Accents and accessories with timeless and classic appeal make sure of that.
The heart and soul of decorating is evident through individual decor style choices. We put a lot of ourselves into the selections and styles we go with. Perusing the blogsophere last year I scrolled through images of a blogger’s kitchen remodel reveal. In the comment section I was taken aback by a comment from another reader. “The _________________ look is so over!” I felt so bad for the blogger. There is no expiration date on what style you, the lead decorator of your domain, deem stylish, relevant and a necessary gorgeous to surround yourself with. The pride the blogger took in sharing the finished project was obvious, and to then have decorative doubt placed upon the heart and soul of decorating choices made- so uncalled for. Comments, like great interior decorating, should be balanced with good taste and careful consideration.
It is my personal and professional opinion that a look, style or decor choice will at sometime in its life be in need of at the very least a freshening up. That’s the heart and soul of decorating. Tastes and decor likes, loves and gotta have it choices change over time. A tweak here and a trend there guarantees it, but it’s the individual tastes and decor choices at the core of it all that makes it a statement of quality and personal style.
And that look, my fellow decoristas, is never over! Embrace, be proud of, and by all means…
Talk of and moodboard creations for entryway and foyer decor and design has got me Foyer Thinking. You know what they say about first impressions. A stylish and stunning foyer is guaranteed to make a fabulous and lasting first impression.
What is the shelf life of your home decor? I’m talking accessories, furnishings, accents, lighting fixtures, wallcoverings, flooring- the whole home decor enchilada.
Do you spot refresh, elegantly edit, or wipe the decor slate clean? A foyer is a great space to do a little of all of it in. Taking flow and form into consideration lays the groundwork however, I admire and appreciate a decorative curve ball- a step away from the expected. It’s a visual treat to the most trained eye, and it keeps things interesting.
That’s me- a forward-thinking foyer thinking decorator who likes a good play on words. Giving the client a myriad of options gave me my own myriad of ideas. Standard accessories usually include a mirror, well placed decorative table or floor lamp(s), and a place to hang your hat. Artwork, architectural pieces, whimsical objects, accent seating, a rug or runner in pattern play- yes, please! A foyer or entryway offers a welcoming glance -a preview of your personal decorative and design show and tell.
As I find myself deep into seasonal updates, client moodboards, color and editing, decor refreshing seems to be hitting home… mine! Thank goodness the major design and decor choices in this house continue to hold my attention. Home decor “staples” are design and decor elements that anchor the space and reflect core tastes. A sideboard in the kitchen one day may be the entertainment center in the den the next. That’s the great attraction to great pieces. I call them decorative chameleons.
Then & Now
The temptation to remodel, refresh and redo goes with the territory. I have promised Dave we will start small (you know what they say about promises, they are made to be broken).
A trip to the Hopefully Classic climate controlled storage unit for a personal shopping afternoon will soon be taking place. Foyer thinking will do that. I feel the need to take inventory, treasure hunt, shake things up a bit, and do a tad of editing from within. You know what they say about first impressions!
